Inspiring young people to be their best
Creativity is at the heart of our business. That’s why we provide unique opportunities for young people to tell their stories and support them to thrive.
Sky Academy Studios
Through Sky Academy Studios we’re bringing young people behind the scenes of TV to make their own content using state of the art technology.
Since opening in 2012, over 100,000 young people across Europe have visited Sky Studios. This year we have encouraged students storytelling skills and Milan have launched a media literacy programme. Sky Academy Studios received record breaking bookings this autumn, with the programme selling out within three and a half minutes. For more information visit the Sky Academy website.
The MAMA Youth Project provides media and television industry training for young people from under-represented groups, and those with limited educational or employment opportunities – enabling them to participate in a 14 week intensive course, offering real-world experience through working on the Sky One show ‘What’s Up TV’.
We’ve worked with the charity since 2011, and every year we provide financial support to put 24 trainees through the programme, as well as providing work experience placements with Sky and several of our production company partners. In 2017, we moved MAMA Youth to our Osterley campus and we're supplying two edit suites. Read more about the MAMA Youth project.
Sky has a strong focus on inspiring young people to be their best, which is why our Scholarship programmes provide a unique combination of financial support, personal development, learning, mentoring and practical experiences.
Sky Sports – Our latest class of Sky Sports Scholars have been with us for a year. We’ve committed to helping 12 young athletes fulfil their potential on the international stage through funding and developmental support. The Scholarship has already helped over 20 athletes from the UK and Ireland. This year we've opened our doors to athletes form Germany and Italy and a wider range of sports including tennis, modern pentathlon and climbing. Visit the Sky Sports Scholars website.
Sky Ocean Rescue – We’ve partnered with National Geographic to give three individuals the opportunity to drive research into marine health and advance our knowledge of the ocean. Our first scholars are currently researching ‘The Future of Clothes Washing’, ‘Micro plastic hazardousness’ and ‘ Why are Puffins going extinct’. To support their endeavours, we are offering the young innovators support and mentoring with marine-based research projects. Learn more about Sky Ocean Rescue Scholars.
Sky Women in Technology – This scholarship is designed to encourage more women to pursue a career in technology. We support each scholar to work within their own area of interest, allowing their projects to influence a variety of areas in the media and entertainment industry.
