Sky CEO becomes WWF Ambassador

Thursday 4 January 2018

Sky Group CEO Jeremy Darroch has become a WWF UK ambassador, joining the likes of Sir David Attenborough and Ben Fogle in WWF’s council of influential people dedicated to solving the urgent issues facing our planet.

As CEO of Europe’s largest entertainment company, Jeremy Darroch has been a leading figure in sustainable business. He led Sky’s drive to become the world’s first carbon-neutral entertainment company in 2006, and in October 2017 announced a commitment to transform Sky’s business operations by eliminating all single-use plastics from its operations, products and supply chain by 2020.

Last January the company launched Sky Ocean Rescue, which aims to raise awareness amongst its 22 million customers of the crisis facing our ocean from threats such as plastic pollution, overfishing and climate change.

Jeremy Darroch, Sky’s Group Chief Executive said:

“I’ve seen first-hand the incredible impact WWF has on our planet and I’m truly honoured to become an ambassador. Through our first partnership with WWF, Sky Rainforest Rescue helped save over a billion trees in the Amazon, today WWF and Sky Ocean Rescue are together focused on the growing threats to marine wildlife. We’ll do everything we can to make a difference, but we can’t do it alone – businesses, governments and individuals alike need to act now, before it’s too late.”

Jeremy was CEO during Sky and WWF’s Sky Rainforest Rescue campaign, which raised over £9 million between 2009 and 2015 to help save one billion trees in the Amazon.

Following the success of Sky Rainforest Rescue, Sky and WWF will be working together to safeguard Marine Protected Areas across Europe through an exciting campaign to be launched in early 2018.

Tanya Steele, Chief Executive of WWF said:

“We are proud to welcome Jeremy Darroch as WWF’s newest Ambassador. Through his visionary work at Sky, Jeremy has shown real leadership in the vital role businesses must play in improving the state of our planet.

“Jeremy’s personal passion for protecting our oceans is one of the driving forces behind the Sky Ocean Rescue campaign, which, with our oceans facing their greatest ever threats, couldn’t come at a more crucial time.”
