Sky Mobile launches Piggybank Rewards, allowing customers to cash in unused mobile data for savings on new phones, tablets and accessories

Wednesday 18 July 2018

Sky Mobile has become the first UK network to let customers cash in their unused data for savings on a range of phones, tablets and mobile accessories, from brands including Apple, Samsung and Sony.

The launch of Piggybank Rewards [http://www.sky.com/shop/skymobile-features] represents Sky’s latest shake up of the mobile market, which included automatically rolling over unused data into a customer’s Sky Piggybank every month with Roll, which has already saved customers a whopping £50 million1 worth of data since launch.

A recent YouGov survey of over 1,000 UK mobile consumers2 found, as a nation, we are wasting a huge £8.4bn per year on unused data, which is a third of an individual’s data allowance per month.

Over 90% of Sky Mobile customers have already saved enough data to be eligible for Piggybank Rewards, showing both the value Roll offers to mobile users and the amount of data that would have otherwise been lost with other networks.

Customers can get up to £50 off any device or accessory when they cash in their Sky Piggybank data. They can check their balance, browse their rewards, and cash in via Sky.com, over the phone, and soon via the My Sky app. The rewards available will change each month. For example in July, customers can cash in from 5GB of unused data for a range of iPhones cases and 20GB for a JBL GO 2 Portable Speaker.

The programme will continue to improve and add even more value for customers, including exclusive and personalised offers.

Sophia Ahmad, Director of Sky Mobile, comments “When we launched Sky Mobile, we wanted to offer the best possible deal to our customers. Automatically saving their unused data with Roll was a big part of this. Our customers have saved over £50 million worth of data so far, which would have been lost with other networks. Now we’re improving Roll even more with Piggybank Rewards - turning customer’s unused data into savings on new phones, tablets and accessories.”

With Sky Mobile’s Roll, any unused data is automatically rolled over into a customer’s Sky Piggybank every month and saved for up to three years, to use whenever they need. Sky Mobile was the first UK network to launch data rollover as a standard on every mobile plan. Customers can also share the data stored in their Piggybank between five different SIMs; so, parents can gift any rolled over data to children and others family members when they need a top up.

Sky Mobile plans at a glance:

Roll – unused data is automatically rolled into a customer’s Sky Piggybank each month, to use whenever they need for up to three years

Mix – customers can opt to change their data allowance, up or down, each month to match how much data they use, without changing contracts

Swap – for those who always want the latest phone model, Swap12 allows customers to upgrade their phone every year without changing their contract. Or customers can opt for Swap24 and get Sky’s lowest monthly price on their handset. For tablets, Swap36 gives customers Sky’s lowest monthly price and the option to upgrade to a new tablet after three years, or those who want a tablet upgrade after two years can opt for Swap24

Save – Sky TV customers get Unlimited Calls & Texts for free as part of their Sky Mobile package

Watch – Sky TV customers also get Sky Go Extra at no additional cost with Sky Mobile. With Sky Go Extra, customers can enjoy the TV they love anywhere, stream shows without using their data, and download great entertainment to watch offline. Customers can also watch their favourite movies and TV shows when travelling in Europe with Sky Go
