Sky News unveils 2019 General Election plans
• ‘Brexit Election’ to provide comprehensive coverage on TV, mobile and digital platforms
• New daily and weekly programmes to give constant analysis up to polling day
Sky News will bring viewers the most comprehensive General Election coverage to date across all devices as the day when voters go to the polls has been confirmed by Parliament.
With Brexit dominating British politics for more than three years, and no way forward, this December election is a frantic bid to break the parliamentary deadlock over how we leave the EU.
Sky News will create several new programmes to cover “The Brexit Election” on the campaign trail through to Thursday 12 December.
Hearing from people as well as the politicians has never been more important and Sky News will broadcast part of its programming live every weekday from a different constituency. The Path to Power will take Mark Austin across the whole of the UK to meet voters in the towns and communities where this election will be decided, and where traditional political loyalties are being torn up.
The Sky News team is led by political editor Beth Rigby and deputy political editor Sam Coates and the very best journalists reporting from Westminster at a tumultuous period of history.
With trust in politicians at all time low, checking the facts is a crucial role of a news organisation as trusted as Sky News. Every day of the campaign Ed Conway will lead Campaign Check to verify the claims and counter claims of the politicians, with the help and support of the UK independent fact-checking organisation ‘Full Fact’.
As voters are targeted in increasingly sophisticated and opaque ways, Rowland Manthorpe will lead a multiplatform project called Under The Radar to shine a light on the ways voters are profiled and then served specific messaging to influence their voting intentions.
In addition, every weeknight Niall Paterson will host The Campaign live from Sky News’ Westminster studio and look back on each day of campaigning and how it will influence the narrative as the election unfolds.
Sophy Ridge’s agenda-setting Sunday morning show will also appear on Saturday mornings, bringing twice as many in-depth interviews with the key players from Parliament across the weekend.
The new features and programming will be supported by the current key pillars, The Early Rundown, Kay Burley @ Breakfast, All Out Politics with Adam Boulton, Ian King Live, The Sarah-Jane Mee Show, Sky News Today and Sky News at Ten with Anna Botting and Anna Jones.
