Inclusive production

Inclusive production
At Sky, we’re committed to building a TV industry that reflects the full diversity of modern Britain - not just at entry level, but right to the top. Our goal is to support the next network of industry leaders from all backgrounds, and that means going beyond opening doors. We’re here to nurture underrepresented talent through mentorship, clear career pathways and real opportunities to grow. We’re focused on meaningful change - ensuring diverse voices are not just seen, but heard where it matters most: at senior, decision-making levels. This isn’t about dictating. It’s about working together. We’re here to support production partners in meeting shared goals, open up conversations with diverse talent already in the industry, and create more space for cross-business discussion. Because long-term change takes all of us.
Diversity targets
Gender
We’re aiming for 50% of head of department roles and 50% of lead and supporting on-screen roles to be filled by women. For scripted, our target is for half of all Drama and Comedy commissions to have a female writer behind the story.

Ethnicity
Every production should have at least one head of department from an ethnic minority background. We’re also aiming for 20% of all roles - on and off screen - to be filled by people from ethnic minority backgrounds, including lead and supporting cast. And in scripted, our goal is for 20% of Drama and Comedy commissions to have a writer from an ethnic minority background shaping the story.
Disability
We’re working to make our productions more inclusive for disabled talent. Our target is for 10% of all roles - on and off screen - to be filled by disabled people, including those appearing on-screen appear to audiences to be disabled (perceived data). And in Drama and Comedy, we want 10% of commissions to be written by disabled writers - bringing lived experience and authentic voices to the stories we tell.

Additional resources
We want everyone working on our shows to feel supported. That’s why we’ve created a set of 'Easy Read' templates to help make production documents more accessible for cast and crew with a disability.
These templates were first developed by the team behind Inside Our Autistic Minds at BBC Studios. They’re designed to make production documents easier to navigate for neurodivergent cast and crew - using clear fonts, icons, colours and layouts that are more straightforward to follow. Alongside the templates, you’ll also find Easy Read guidelines and a set of coloured icons to help you complete the documents quickly and clearly.
If your production needs extra support to put this reasonable adjustment in place, such as hiring another crew member to fill out the documents, you can make a TAP Access Funding Request. Just complete the Access Funding Request form and return it to your Production Executive for review.
