Aaron Sorkin’s THE NEWSROOM to air exclusively on Sky Atlantic HD from Tuesday 10 July
From Tuesday 10 July at 10pm, the much anticipated new HBO series THE NEWSROOM will debut exclusively to Sky customers in the UK on Sky Atlantic HD. The ten part series, created by Academy award® winner Aaron Sorkin (The Social Network, The West Wing), is an inside look at cable news programme News Night and the men and women behind it.
The News Night team is led by anchor and managing editor Will McAvoy (Golden Globe® nominee Jeff Daniels) and his new executive producer MacKenzie McHale (Emily Mortimer). Then there’s their staff: senior producer Jim Harper (John Gallagher, Jr.), associate producer Margaret Jordan (Alison Pill), researcher Neal Sampat (BAFTA® nominee Dev Patel) and financial analyst Sloan Sabbith (Olivia Munn).
Also making frequent appearances in the offices are News Night’s former executive producer Don Keefer (Thomas Sadoski), and President of the news division, Charlie (Academy award® nominee and Golden Globe® winner Sam Waterston). Together, they set out on a patriotic and quixotic mission to do the news well in the face of corporate and commercial obstacles and their own personal relationships.
Plus, joining the series as a recurring guest star in later episodes will be Academy award® winner Jane Fonda as parent company CEO Leona Lansing.
THE NEWSROOM was created and is executive produced by Aaron Sorkin. Academy award® winner Scott Rudin (Moneyball) and Alan Poul (Six Feet Under) also serve as executive producers.
THE NEWSROOM forms part of Sky Atlantic HD’s commissioning and acquisition strategy to bring the most compelling stories exclusively to Sky customers. Its stellar schedule includes Mad Men and Game of Thrones, plus upcoming UK-originations Great Britain: Our Story, the channel’s first foray into high-end factual, and Julia Davis and Kathy Burke comedies Hunderby and Walking + Talking.
THE NEWSROOM premieres on Sky Atlantic HD on Tuesday 10 July at 10pm. Following the addition of Sky Atlantic HD to Sky Go, customers will also be able to watch THE NEWSROOM on the move on iPad, selected smartphones and laptops at no extra cost.
