America’s #1 new drama heads to Sky1 HD
SKY ACQUIRES REVOLUTION FROM WARNER BROS. INTERNATIONAL TELEVISION DISTRIBUTION IN A THREE SEASON DEAL
NBC lit up the fall TV season with a retro-future look at a world gone dark
Entertainment Weekly
LONDON and BURBANK, Calif. – Sky today (12th December 2012) announces a deal with Warner Bros. International Television Distribution for the exclusive UK television rights to the action-packed U.S. drama series REVOLUTION. The announcement was made today by Sarah Wright, Controller of Acquisitions, Sky, and Jeffrey R. Schlesinger, President, Warner Bros. International Television. The series is Executive Produced by J.J. Abrams.
The show is currently airing on NBC in the United States and has proved to be incredibly successful, ranking as the #1 new series of the 2012-13 season. REVOLUTION has also achieved an incredible 13.3m total viewers, which is the most successful scripted launch in over three years.
The acquisition of REVOLUTION will build upon Sky1 HD’s long-standing success and tradition of securing compelling US scripted series, including most recently ARROW which has already established itself as a firm favourite with customers and is the channels most successful US drama to date.
The series is an epic adventure thriller from Supernatural's Eric Kripke and J.J. Abrams' Bad Robot Productions. The first episode begins with a family struggling to reunite in a post-apocalyptic American landscape: a world of empty cities, local militias and heroic freedom fighters, where every single piece of technology has mysteriously blacked out.
This is an action-packed adventure seen through the eyes of one strong-willed young woman, Charlie Matheson (Tracy Spiridakos, Being Human), and her brother, Danny (Graham Rogers, Struck by Lighting). When Danny is kidnapped by militia leaders, Charlie must reconnect with her estranged Uncle Miles (Billy Burke, Twilight), a former Marine, living a reclusive life. Together, with a rogue band of survivors, they set out to rescue Danny, overthrow the militia and ultimately re-establish the United States of America. Whilst also searching for answers on the mystery of why the power failed, and if it will ever return.
The series also features Giancarlo Esposito (Breaking Bad), David Lyons (The Cape) and JD Pardo (Drive).
Sarah Wright, Controller of Acquisitions, Sky Entertainment, commented: "We're thrilled to be partnering with Warner Bros. on this latest project from J.J. Abrams. Our customers have always had a strong connection with J.J. Abrams event series and we're confident that REVOLUTION will prove to be a monster hit with them following its record breaking debut in the US."
Jeffrey R. Schlesinger, President, Warner Bros. International Television added: “REVOLUTION is an amazing ratings success in the United States, so not surprisingly there has been enormous interest in bringing the series to U.K. audiences. This is a big-budget, compelling and exciting series perfectly matched for Sky1 HD and we are sure it will be a hit for them."
The deal was negotiated by Sarah Wright, BSkyB’s Controller of Acquisitions and Lucy Criddle, Senior Acquisitions Manager, Sky Entertainment.
REVOLUTION is executive produced by J.J. Abrams (Lost, Star Trek), Bryan Burk (Fringe, Super 8)and Eric Kripke (Supernatural). The series is produced by Bonanza Productions Inc. in association with Bad Robot Productions, Kripke Enterprises and Warner Bros. Television. REVOLUTION is coming to Sky1 HD in 2013.
