Anticipation builds ahead of Sky sports F1 HD launch
There’s a real sense of anticipation, adrenalin and excitement building here at Sky as we approach the launch of our brand new dedicated Formula 1 channel, Sky Sports F1TM HD, and the first Grand Prix of the 2012 season.
Although the channel launches on 9th March, we’re already well underway with our Formula 1 story. For example, earlier this month we launched our comprehensive Formula 1 website – now a go-to destination for fans featuring breaking news, interviews and exclusive video content. We’ve also recently rolled out our nationwide advertising campaign for the channel, giving our customers and the wider public a taster as to the exciting coverage and programming we’ll be bringing to screens this coming season.
We’ve had some really positive responses to our TV promos, which have been running for a few weeks now. We’ve worked hard to capture the rich and vivid story of Formula 1 through sound and vision. And it’s this sense of excitement and energy that we’ve sought to offer through our newspaper ads too. How so? Well, it’s by using mobile technology to ensure that our static print ads act as a gateway through to rich video content which audiences can experience through their smartphones and tablet devices.
So, as first showcased towards the end of last year in Sky1’s Treasure Island campaign, we’re once again bringing a number of our print ads to life with the latest in Augmented Reality technology.
Simply by downloading the free Aurasma Lite app from Apple’s App Store or the Android Market, readers can unlock a special clip from Sky Sports F1TM HD presenter Martin Brundle, talking about the upcoming Formula 1 season on the channel, by pointing their device at the print ads with their smartphones or iPads.
We’ve included an online version of the campaign above so you can try it out. Once you’ve added the app to your device, hold it up so you’re scanning the image through your screen and wait a few moments for the engines to start revving – it’s as easy as that.
We think it’s a really innovative and engaging way to provide a taste of the style and content of the channel – let us know what you think by commenting below.
As March fast approaches, we’re busy pulling out all the stops so we can delve deep into the atmosphere and intensity of Formula 1 racing. The thought, planning and energy that’s gone into Sky Sports F1TM HD has made it a thrilling experience. And with the launch of the channel now just days away, the best is really yet to come. We can’t wait to get started.
