Behind the scenes on the making of Sky Q

Tuesday 26 January 2016

The reaction since we unveiled our brand new, next generation TV service, Sky Q, has been fantastic. We’ve seen real excitement from customers who can’t wait to get their hands on the product, and an incredible reaction from journalists.

As we get nearer to launch, we wanted to share with you some of the work that went on behind the scenes to bring Sky Q to life – from the customer insight that sits behind it, to the incredible work teams right across Sky have put in to make it a reality.

We set out to create the world’s best TV experience, and a key part of that was talking to our customers to understand how they really live their lives today – what’s changed from the first days of Sky+ and what’s the same.  We learned that the big screen in the living room is still someplace special, and is where it all begins.  But it was also clear that all the other screens - from the TV in the second room to the tablet in your bag and the phone in your pocket - are now firmly embedded in our lives.

To help customers get the most from this new world, Sky Q is reinventing how people watch TV all over again with something we call Fluid Viewing.  Fluid Viewing lets you enjoy all those great shows, sports, and movies from Sky across all the screens in our lives.  You can pause in one room, and carry on in another, or even on your Tablet.  And with Q Sync, for the first time you can even take your recordings with you.

And while we’ve had some great partners to help us along the way, this amazing experience was designed and developed by some incredible people here at Sky, in the UK.

With Sky Q, we’ve developed what we think is the world’s best TV viewing experience – and a platform that will get even better in years to come.
