Tuesday 17 April 2012

Created by Paul Abbott and written by Sean Conway

Coming exclusively to Sky Atlantic HD in late May 2012

This May, Sky Atlantic HD will launch its first UK original drama commission, HIT & MISS. Created by Paul Abbott and written by Sean Conway, it stars Academy Award® nominee and Golden Globe® winner Chloë Sevigny as Mia, a contract killer with a big secret: she’s a transgender woman.

Train. Kill. Receive payment. Repeat. This has been the routine of Mia’s (Sevigny) existence ever since she was taken under the wing of Eddie (Peter Wight, Another Year), a long-standing resident of the criminal underworld, and transformed into a sharp-shooting assassin. Fate, however, ensures things don’t stay the same for long, and the arrival of a bombshell-laden letter from her ex, Wendy, changes Mia’s life forever.

The professional ‘cleaner’ is left reeling not only by the tragic news that her former flame is dying from cancer, but that she has a child, a ten-year-old son named Ryan (newcomer Jorden Bennie). Travelling to a tiny village in West Yorkshire to meet the youngster, Mia then stumbles upon the rest of Wendy’s brood - Riley (Karla Crome, Doctors), 16, Levi (Reece Noi, Silk), 15, and Leonie (newcomer Roma Christensen), 6 - and discovers that Wendy has died, and she’s been named the children’s legal guardian.

Mia’s inherited clan aren’t the most welcoming and her struggle to be a parent is only heightened when she gets on the wrong side of John (Vincent Regan, 300), the unpleasant owner of their smallholding. And there’s Ben (Jonas Armstrong, Robin Hood), a landscape gardener who falls for Mia, unaware that she’s no ordinary woman...

HIT & MISS is about family, sexual identity and the highs and lows of being a parent. It follows Mia’s attempts to mix her killer instincts with her new maternal ones and her search for identity.

Creator Paul Abbott is a multi-award winning writer and producer responsible for some of the most diverse and genre-defining dramas to appear on British television, from Shameless to conspiracy thriller State of Play. HIT AND MISS is written by film writer Sean Conway (Brilliant Love, Kings Of London), who combines a dark and compelling narrative with moments of joy, humour and beauty.

HIT & MISS is a co-production made by Paul Abbott’s development company AbbottVision and Red Production Company.  Executive Produced by Paul Abbott (AbbottVision), Nicola Shindler (Red Production Company) and Huw Kennair-Jones (Sky Atlantic).  Produced by Juliet Charlesworth (Clocking Off) and directed by Hettie Macdonald (Beautiful Thing) and Sheree Folkson (Ugly Betty).

HIT & MISS forms part of Sky Atlantic HD’s commissioning and acquisition strategy to bring the most compelling stories exclusively to Sky customers. Its stellar schedule includes Mad Men and Game of Thrones, plus upcoming UK-originations Great Britain: Our Story, the channel’s first foray into high-end factual, and Julia Davis and Kathy Burke comedies Hunderby and Walking + Talking.

The six part series will exclusively air on Sky Atlantic HD and Sky Atlantic in May 2012. Following the addition of Sky Atlantic HD to Sky Go, customers will also be able to watch HIT & MISS on the move on iPad, selected smartphones and laptops at no extra cost.
