F1 companion experience comes to new Sky Sports for iPad app
At Sky Sports, we’re always looking to see how we can use new technology to give our customers an even richer experience alongside our coverage on the main screen.
This is why today we’re unveiling a revamped Sky Sports for iPad app, which contains a brand new F1 companion experience that will allow fans to get closer to the action that ever before. It means that, alongside live coverage available in stunning HD and Dolby digital 5.1 surround sound, Sky customers are now able to access a range of perspectives through their iPad at the same time as they watch the action unfold on their main TV screen.
The Sky Sports for iPad app, which is available free of charge to Sky Sports customers, was previousy the Sky Sports News for iPad app that we launched at the beginning of the year. Within the updated app is a brand new F1 companion experience, F1 Race Control, which offers a range off features including a choice of eight different video feeds, live footage from in-car cameras and the pit lane and easily accessible highlights packages of key moments during the race. We have also introduced social media functionality via a live editorially managed twitter feed to ensure we bring viewers the best of F1 coverage on the social web.
As with all apps, we’ll keep exploring how we can make it even better in future updates, and in particular we’re in the process of developing a split-screen service within the F1 experience that will be ideal for users choosing to focus on individual drivers during the race.
And looking to the longer-term, one of the most exciting aspects of the app is not just what it can offer fans of F1, but also the possibilities it opens up to use second screen technology to offer multiple perspectives on other sports featured across the Sky Sports channels. In a year which is likely to see second screen experiences become ever more commonplace, we can't wait to see how we might extend this functionality to provide an even more immersive experience for Sky Sports customers.
