Flintoff’s Road to Nowhere
We’ve all heard the warnings about global warming. Most of us are aware
that the earth’s rainforests are shrinking, and that deforestation is linked to the environmental challenges
facing the planet. But few of us have any real idea of what’s actually happening on the ground. That’s why
every year, Sky airs two strands of environment-themed programmes, which bring the wonders of the Amazon to
life to our 11 million customers at home here in Britain and Ireland. Over the lifetime of Sky Rainforest
Rescue we have aired over 130 hours of rainforest programming. Flintoff’s Road To Nowhere is our latest
commission which helps further our commitment to help protect a billion trees.
In
Flintoff’s Road To Nowhere, self-confessed environmental sceptic Freddie Flintoff and extreme cyclist and
die-hard tree-hugger Rob Penn set off on an epic journey into the dark heart of the Amazon to cycle the
world’s most controversial new mega-road: Brazil’s Trans-Amazonian Highway. During an entertaining and
thought-provoking voyage of discovery, Flintoff and Penn encounter an extraordinary range of people, places
and situations as they explore one of the world’s most enigmatic regions, during a time of unprecedented
change.
When we gave Freddie Flintoff the chance to embark on the journey of a
lifetime to the Amazon Rainforest, he jumped at the chance. Never one to turn down a hard-core physical
test, Freddie had an added reason for going. His daughter Holly had been learning about the rainforest at
school and was passionate about trying to help. The result has been an entertaining two part documentary
that, we hope will help bring the issue of deforestation to a whole new audience.
This
show is just one of the many ways we’re helping to raise awareness about climate change. Through Sky
Rainforest Rescue, our partnership with WWF, we’re working together to help protect one billion trees in the
Amazon rainforest in Brazil. To find out more about Sky Rainforest Rescue, go to sky.com/rainforestrescue or follow us
