Konnie Huq to present King of the Nerds on Sky 1 HD

Sky 1 HD today (Thursday 31st July, 2014) announces that KING OF THE NERDS, a brand-new 8x60 series from Objective Productions, 5x5, and Electus that celebrates some of the most unique and gifted young minds in the UK.

Based on the hit US format on TBS, and presented by KONNIE HUQ the series sees eleven of Britain’s sharpest brains from across the nerd spectrum face challenges that test their intellect, ingenuity, skills and pop-culture prowess. Designed to to sort the weak from the geek, the nerds live together in “Nerdvana,” competing first as teams before moving on to individual challenges.

Each week one Nerd is eliminated, until the series culminates with one winner chosen to sit on the ‘Throne of Games’ as the quintessential master of all things nerdy, the King Of The Nerds.

KONNIE HUQ commented: “Totally excited about King of the Nerds, such a great concept. Me and my hubby got really addicted to seasons 1 and 2 of the US show. Great challenges and fab characters. Can't wait to start filming the UK version.”

Electus International will distribute the UK series, alongside the format and the US series, which has sold in over 80 territories, including Canada, Australia, the Netherlands, and Poland.

KING OF THE NERDS will air on Sky 1 HD later this year.  The series has been commissioned by Adam MacDonald and Barbara Lee and will be executive produced by Adam Adler and Shannon Delwiche for Objective Productions. The Series Producer is Ross Curran and the Series Director is Ashley Meneely for Objective Productions.

This year Sky will invest £600 million a year in original British content and production across its portfolio of channels.  This commitment includes entertainment shows GOT TO DANCE and DUCK QUACKS DON’T ECHO; dramas such as STRIKE BACK and MOONFLEET; comedies including STELLA, DOLL & EM and MOONE BOY and factual shows as diverse as 50 WAYS TO KILL YOUR MAMMY, THE SOUTH BANK SHOW and ROSS KEMP EXTREME WORLD.
