Lily Cole to present new six part Art series for Sky Arts
Lily Cole’s Art Matters will broadcast in autumn 2012.
Lily Cole will front a brand new, six part series for Sky Arts, which will see the supermodel and art history graduate get under the skin of some of the world’s most famous contemporary artists.
Lily Cole’s Art Matters, produced by back2back for Sky Arts, will see Lily embark on a fascinating journey with renowned artists such as Tacita Dean and Christo, watching them at work in their studio, discussing their life and artistic processes, and getting closer than ever before to the people behind the art. Lily will accompany these artists to their places of inspiration as they discuss the genesis of their work and how their lives as artists really began.
Artists confirmed to appear in the series include the seminal South American artist Gabriel Orozco, Dame Paula Rego, Tacita Dean and Christo, the artist best known for his huge environmental installations such as the wrapping of the Reichstag in Berlin and the Pont Neuf in Paris.
Lily, who has modelled extensively from the age of 14 for some of the world’s leading fashion houses, graduated from Cambridge University in 2011 with a double first in art history. While Lily has embarked on a successful acting career since leaving university with roles in The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus and Doctor Who, this is her first presenting role and her first foray into arts programming.
“We are delighted to welcome Lily Cole to Sky Arts with this new and innovative programme,” comments James Hunt, director of Sky Arts. "We are confident that this series will offer our customers what we believe is a very different and unique opportunity to get up close and personal to some of the most intriguing, controversial and ground breaking contemporary artists.”
“It’s a unique opportunity to be directing an arts series with a presenter from outside the exclusive ‘arts world’ circle. Lily Cole is bright and curious and with our unparalleled access to some of today’s most interesting and important contemporary artists this series is sure to be unique and fun.” Susan Doyon, Director, back2back.
