MODERN FAMILY and THE MIDDLE return to Sky 1 HD’s comedy Fridays

Wednesday 12 September 2012

Much loved US sitcoms THE MIDDLE and MODERN FAMILY will return exclusively to Sky 1 HD’s Comedy Fridays from Friday 5 October at 7.30pm and 8pm respectively.

MODERN FAMILY’s third season has so far racked up a BAFTA nomination, 14 Emmy® nominations (including one for each lead cast member) and a Golden Globe® win for Best Television Series, adding to the already impressive raft of awards already secured.

The third season finale saw Gloria (Sofia Vergara) drop a pregnancy bombshell. It's a safe bet that stocking up on nappies and having another a sprog weren't on Jay's (Ed O'Neill) to-do list. Creator Steve Levitan teased the thinking behind the plot twist: "Whose lives would it screw up the most?"

In the fourth season opener, Bringing Up Baby, we pick up where we left off. Jay's birthday is upon us again and, as before, he makes it well-known that he wishes to keep it as low key as possible, with no grand gestures or surprises. But naturally, his family misses the mark yet again.

Phil (Ty Burrell) takes Jay on a very unconventional fishing trip with his buddies, and Gloria struggles with how to break the pregnancy news to him. Meanwhile, Haley’s (Sarah Hyland) boyfriend Dylan (Reid Ewing) moves into the Dunphy household temporarily, and Mitchell (Jesse Tyler Ferguson) and Cameron (Emmy® and Golden Globe® winner, Eric Stonestreet) decide to look into adopting a cat as they continue to cope with their failed attempt to adopt another child.

Series co-creator Steve Levitan said of the new season that it “is kind of picking up right where we left off, with Gloria's announcement to the audience that she’s pregnant. Everybody, as you can imagine, has big reactions to this news, and the whole episode is about that.”

Co-creator Christopher Lloyd added: "Gloria will be gaining weight but not wanting to change any of her outfits, which is funny."

Later in the season, Wendi McLendon-Covey (Bridesmaids) will join the cast in a guest role as one-half of a lesbian couple whose son gets into a fight with Lily (Aubrey Anderson-Emmons) on the first day of kindergarten.

Sky 1 HD also welcomes back the Hecks family as the warm and witty comedy THE MIDDLE returns for a third series. Re-joining Frankie (Patricia Heaton), Mike (Neil Flynn), Axl (Charlie McDermott), Sue and Brick (Atticus Shaffer), life in middle-America is still as hectic, fun and heartfelt as ever.

In the series opening instalment, Frankie's plans to recreate the magic of her own childhood summers fall apart in typical Heck fashion when Mike accidentally reveals eldest son Axl to be his favourite child, prompting Frankie to attempt to coax the kids into telling them who their favourite parent is.

Meanwhile, Axl is forced to attend summer school, Sue tries to bond with Mike over a range of activities, and Brick hopes to develop green fingers when he tries to grow a giant tomato.

THE MIDDLE and MODERN FAMILY will join an already stellar line up of Friday night comedy led by Chris O’Dowd’s MOONE BOY and hit supermarket sitcom TROLLIED. SPY, featuring a BAFTA® winning performance from Darren Boyd, and sports panel show A LEAGUE OF THEIR OWN fronted by James Corden, will also be returning later in October.

THE MIDDLE SEASON 3 will air exclusively on Sky 1 HD and Sky 1 from Friday 5 October at 7.30pm with MODERN FAMILY SEASON 4 at 8pm. Following the addition of Sky 1 HD to Sky Go, customers will also be able to watch MODERN FAMILY on the move on iPad, selected smartphones and laptops at no extra cost.
