New Sky Arts iPhone app delivers moments of inspiration for Arts lovers
Sky Arts fans can now enjoy moments of inspiration when they are out and about via a new iPhone app which encourages art lovers to explore the unique cultural landscape of the UK and Ireland.
The app sends users a notification whenever they are close to a location connected with a cultural figure such as an artist, musician or filmmaker or a cultural creation such as a book, song or film. When the user taps the notification the Sky Arts app opens and transports the user to a ‘moment of inspiration’: a fact that connects the artist or work of art to the user’s current location. The fact then comes bundled with images or a related short video clip from Sky Arts.
From being prompted towards a video clip of John Lydon talking about the Sex Pistols as a user walks past the famous 100 Club in London, to seeing Yoko Ono talk about John Lennon as you pass the location of her 2008 Sky Ladders sculpture project in the ruins of Liverpool’s Church of St Luke, the Sky Arts app contains thousands of inspiring moments waiting to be discovered.
Users can select the genre of the moments of inspiration that they wish to receive in the app’s settings menu. These genres include Art, Comedy, Theatre, Film, Dance, Music and Books. Users can also browse through a timeline of the moments they have collected, while facts and videos can be shared with friends on social networks such as Facebook and Twitter or by email or text message.
James Hunt, Director of Sky Arts said, “We know our customers find Sky Arts content inspiring, whether they watch at home or on the move with Sky Go. We have launched the Sky Arts app because we want everyone to enjoy moments of inspiration and now they can experience this content in situ at famous venues and places across the UK and Ireland.”
The Sky Arts app complements Sky’s existing wide range of apps, which includes dedicated apps for Sky Movies and Sky Sports. The award-winning Sky Sports for iPad provides the ultimate expert’s guide to all the latest and best fixtures. With in-depth news coverage of all the biggest sports stories of the day as well as the ability to stream the Sky Sports channels and an unrivalled multi-screen experience of the UEFA Champions’ league, the Barclays Premier league and the F1 Grand Prix™. The Sky Movies app meanwhile allows you to discover the latest movies available on Sky Movies, Sky Store, and at your nearest cinema.
The Sky Arts app concept was developed by Sky Emerging Products and the OTHER media. It was developed by the OTHER media and published by Sky.
