Prime Minister Rishi Sunak interviewed by young presenters on Sky Kids’ weekly news show, FYI

Wednesday 19 April 2023

Sky Kids is set to release an exclusive interview this weekend with the Prime Minister in a special edition of FYI: Weekly News Show.

Young presenters Braydon Bent and Maya Gomersall Durban quiz Rishi Sunak on a wide range of topics from underage vaping and his relationship with King Charles to his favourite pop star, Katy Perry.

Questions were also submitted from members of FYI News Clubs at schools across the UK, spanning themes including education and the rise in the cost of living. Mr Sunak provided digestible answers for the younger audience.

Ruby, in Highgate asks Mr Sunakit’s been a tough winter for us all, but how do you know to help struggling families when you’re so rich yourself? Sunak answered, the best way to judge people is not by what job they're doing or where they come from, it's about what they're actually doing and I think you can judge me by my actions.

The interview goes on to discuss topics such as climate change, the King’s Coronation, and vaping, following FYI’s recent documentary FYI Investigates: Kids Who Vape, exploring the ways in which vape products are marketed to younger people.

When asked about what the government will do to stop underage vaping, Mr Sunak tells the FYI presenters no one should be vaping under 18 and it’s illegal to sell vapes to children. He added, these adverts for these things [vapes] are designed to appeal to kids, with the colours they use, the characters they use - that’s not right – their flavours”.

He continued so we’re doing a couple of things. One is we are having a crackdown squad – we’ve put millions of pounds behind it and they’re going to make sure the rules are enforced. He added the government is also asking people for the best ideas to prevent children from vaping.

FYI is produced by Fresh Start Media; the executive producer is Chris Rogers, and the Commissioning Editor at Sky Kids is Ian France. FYI is a weekly news show presented entirely by kids for kids. The show also reaches thousands of schools via the Sky Kids and First News and Education TV partnership.

FYI will be available to view on demand on Sky Kids and streaming service NOW from 22nd April. It will also have a linear TX on Sky News throughout the weekend of April 22 and 23.
