Prisoners of War (Hatufim) comes to Sky Arts

Sky Arts today announces that it has acquired Keshet Broadcasting's acclaimed foreign language drama Prisoners of War. It will receive its UK television premiere on Sky Arts 1 in May.

Prisoners of War (Hatufim) was Israel’s number one drama in 2010. The series is the original version on which the American drama series Homeland is based and which recently won the award for Best Drama series in the Golden Globes Awards. Prisoners of War focuses on the story of three IDF soldiers who were captured during active service behind enemy lines in Lebanon.  Seventeen years later, the soldiers are released (only two come back alive) and the story of their time in captivity unfolds as they attempt to reintegrate into society: they try to cope with the pressures of being reintroduced to their families and friends, as well as handling the national hero status being thrust upon them via the public limelight.

Prisoners of War’s gripping plot unravels through three time plains; before capture, life in captivity and proceedings in the present day, which all intertwine to reveal dark secrets about the soldier’s time in captivity. Through the duration of the series, personal drama, struggles and challenges help paint a picture of what exactly happened in the long 17 years the men were incarcerated.

The ten-part series, written and directed by Gideon Raff, was hugely successful when it aired on Israeli commercial channel Keshet Broadcasting, channel 2. It will air in the UK with English subtitles.
