Protecting our planet can start with the flick of a switch.
On Saturday 19 March, at 8.30pm, millions of people around the world will switch off their lights for WWFs’ Earth Hour to show their support for protecting our planet.
Sky is getting behind Earth Hour as the latest part of our work to help tackle one of the biggest single issues facing our planet – climate change. We’re supporting it this year in a big way, reaching out to our 21 million customers across Europe, through their TV screens and online, to encourage as many people as possible to take part. On screen, we’re showcasing a special collection of the best of our TV content on demand and on Sky 1 including Sir David Attenborough’s Conquest of the Skies and Richard Hammond’s Jungle Quest. We’re also really excited to be airing a new advert in the lead up to Earth Hour, encouraging everyone to switch off their lights, because helping to protect our planet can start with the flick of a switch. Look out for it across Sky channels.
We know the impact we can have when we set out to inspire our customers to take action and we believe small changes really can make a big difference. Together with our customers we were able to raise over £9m for Sky Rainforest Rescue, our partnership with WWF, helping to save one billion trees in the Amazon – and so, a large part of our Earth Hour campaign will be to use social media to highlight some of the small changes we can all make in our everyday lives to help protect our planet for generations to come.
As well as bringing these important issues to life in a different way for customers, we know it’s important to do our bit. We’ve been committed to reducing our impact on the environment for a long time and there is great work taking place right across our business, from making our set-top boxes even better and more sustainable, to finding innovative and more efficient ways to power our buildings, symbolised nicely by our wind turbine on our London campus.
So, when the clock strikes 8.30pm on Saturday 19 March, we’d love you to join us, WWF, and the millions of others around the world to show you care about the future of our planet, by switching off your lights.
