Relive Anthony Joshua’s defeat of Wladimir Klitschko in stunning Virtual Reality

Monday 8 May 2017

Sports fans around the world can now relive Anthony Joshua’s epic victory against Wladimir Klitschko in an incredible Virtual Reality (VR) experience.

The 12-minute film, created by Sky’s dedicated in-house VR production unit, Sky VR Studios, provides a unique perspective on what is already being considered one of the greatest heavyweight bouts to take place on these shores. It is available now to download via the Sky VR App.

The film offers an up close and personal look at both fighters as they run through their preparations in their dressing rooms, and as they make their way through the 90,000 spectators packed into Wembley Stadium down to the ring.

Then, using eight custom built 360 cameras, the film follows the heart-stopping action in the ring, giving viewers an incredible glimpse into what it is like to step into the ring with two of the world’s finest heavyweight boxers.

Once the bell rings, viewers come within arms-length of some devastating punches, as the atmosphere and the tension builds towards the 11th-round knock-out. Using some cutting edge technology, Sky VR Studios has created one of the most exciting sports VR films ever made.

Neil Graham, Executive Producer of Sky VR Studios, said: “There’s no doubt that this was one of the all-time great heavyweight fights, and it was an incredible to be given such unprecedented access to the action. The resulting film takes viewers closer to the action than ever before – closer than Arnie’s ringside seat!”

The Joshua vs Klitschko VR film is now available to download via the Sky VR App. The app is available to download on a compatible mobile from Google Play or the App Store. The app will let anyone watch immersive Virtual Reality content on a Smartphone either in conjunction with a Google Cardboard headset or in 2D (360 degrees) without a headset. The app will also work when using Samsung Gear VR, Oculus Rift and Daydream.

Sky VR Studio is a dedicated in-house facility established to create high quality, immersive VR content. The Sky VR app is the home of high quality, immersive VR content from Sky, and from selected third party VR producers. It currently plays host to a wide range of high end VR experiences, from Factory 42 produced Giselle, to full length VR documentaries featuring the likes of Team Sky and Premier League highlights.
