Sky acquires VEGAS and ELEMENTARY from CBS Studios International
As part of Sky’s commitment to bringing the best in US programming to its customers, Sky today (3rd July 2012) announces a deal with CBS Studios International for the exclusive free and basic UK TV rights for VEGAS and ELEMENTARY. The announcement was made today by Sarah Wright, Controller of Acquisitions, Sky Entertainment, and Stephen Tague, Senior Vice President Europe, CBS Studios International.
Sarah Wright said: “We are thrilled to be adding VEGAS and ELEMENTARY to the Sky portfolio. We are committed to bringing the best of the US to Sky customers which, alongside our investment in original UK content, is truly delivering a world class slate of exclusive programming.”
VEGAS will premiere on Sky Atlantic HD. Dennis Quaid (Far From Heaven) and Michael Chiklis (The Shield) star in the drama inspired by the true story of former Las Vegas Sheriff Ralph Lamb, a fourth-generation rancher tasked with bringing order to the city in the 1960s. The executive producers are Greg Walker (Without a Trace) Academy Award-nominated writer Nicholas Pileggi (Goodfellas), Arthur Sarkissian (Rush Hour), Cathy Konrad (Walk the Line) and Academy Award-nominated writer/director James Mangold (Walk the Line).
Las Vegas is swelling with outsiders and corruption as the gambling and entertainment mecca is emerging from the tumbleweeds. Lamb (Quaid) is tasked with looking into the murder of a casino work and comes across Vincent Savino (Chiklis), a ruthless Chicago gangster who plans to make Vegas his own. The two become engaged in a fierce battle for control of the budding oasis and, for both, folding is not an option.
VEGAS also stars Jason O’Mara (Terra Nova) as Lamb’s brother, Jack, and Taylor Handley (The Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Beginning) as his son, Dixon. Carrie-Anne Moss (The Matrix) plays the ambitious Assistant District Attorney, Katherine O’Connell.
ELEMENTARY will premiere on Sky Living HD in Autumn 2012. Jonny Lee Miller (Trainspotting) stars as Sherlock Holmes alongside Lucy Liu (Charlie’s Angels) as Dr Joan Watson is this modern-day take on the iconic detective series. The series is executive produced by Robert Doherty (Ringer), Sarah Timberman (Justified), Carl Beverly (Justified) and Michael Cuesta (Homeland).
Sherlock Holmes is taking on New York where, straight out of rehab, he’s been assigned to live with his worst nightmare sober coach, Dr Joan Watson. Holmes’ unsurpassed skills of deduction and Watson’s medical expertise come together to create a dream team for solving the NYPD’s most impossible cases.
ELEMENTARY also stars Aidan Quinn (Legends of the Fall) as Capt. Tobias “Toby” Gregson, who knows of Sherlock’s brilliance from previous experience at Scotland Yard and welcomes him as part of the NYPD team.
Stephen Tague said: “We’re excited to expand our relationship with Sky and make the first new programming announcement in the UK following the L.A. Screenings. ELEMENTARY and VEGAS were two of the most sought after shows during the Screenings, illustrating the continued strength and quality of CBS programming.”
VEGAS and ELEMENTARY are produced by CBS Television Studios and distributed around the world by CBS Studios International.
