Sky Go named Digital Media Service of the Year

Monday 8 October 2012

Sky’s multiplatform TV service Sky Go was last night named the ‘Digital Media Service of the Year’ at the T3 Magazine technology awards in London.

T3 Magazine praised Sky Go, saying: ‘With its easy-to-use EPG and quality streaming, Sky Go has, in the year since its release, become an essential part of a lot of Sky lovers’ lives’. The T3 judging panel added: ‘Quite simply, Sky Go is leading the way in mobile TV’.

Available to Sky customers at no extra cost, Sky Go lets Sky customers choose from hundreds of hours of TV live or on demand from 32 channels. Offering content across movies, entertainment, sport and news, Sky customers can use Sky Go to enjoy their favourite TV on the move, accessing the service through either a WiFi or 3G connection. The service is available across a range of internet-connected devices, including iPhone, iPad and selected Android smartphones.

The T3 award comes on the back of record-breaking usage figures for Sky Go for Sky Sports’ coverage of the Ryder Cup. Alongside the live HD and 3D coverage on Sky Sports, which reached almost 5 million TV viewers during the course of the tournament, a record-breaking 700,000 Sky customers followed the live action through Sky Go, peaking with an audience of 200,000 as Team Europe completed their comeback on the Sunday night. In the three months between April and June this year, a total of 2.7 million unique users accessed Sky Go.

Luke Bradley-Jones, Sky’s Brand Director for TV Products comments: "It’s a great honour that Sky Go has been recognised as the best digital media service in the UK. Providing an easy and flexible way for Sky customers to enjoy their favourite TV on the move and at no extra cost, Sky Go packs even more value into a Sky subscription. We look forward to continuing our leadership in creating great experiences for our customers on mobile devices, from viewing on the move via Sky Go to finding out more about their favourite shows through our Sky+ app."

Among the other winners at the T3 Awards last night was the augmented TV specialist zeebox, which won ‘App of the Year’. Following a partnership between Sky and zeebox announced earlier this year, Sky customers are able to enjoy immersive ‘second-screen’ experiences powered by zeebox within the popular Sky+ app for iPad. Through the Sky+ app, Sky customers can now interact more fully with content than ever before, following and contributing to online chat via an
in-built Twitter feed, plus gain easy access to a range of extra information related to the show they are watching.
