Sky Living HD announces Jade’s Legacy: The Fight Goes On

Sky Living HD follows courageous women and their journeys battling cervical cancer

Today SKY LIVING HD announces a powerful one-off documentary looking at the aftermath of Jade’s legacy.  JADE’S LEGACY: THE FIGHT GOES ON, which comes to the channel on 7 June at 8pm, examines the disease which claimed the star’s life.

Commemorating the tragic death of Jade Goody in 2009 from the disease, this moving documentary charts the battles of remarkable women at various stages of cervical cancer. Produced by Smoking Pony and with the help from charities Eve Appeal, Jo’s Trust and Macmillan, Sky Living looks at how three years after Jade’s death many women are once again foregoing life-saving tests.

For the past three years Sky Living – the channel that has featured all Jade’s programming - has raised awareness about the issues around cervical cancer. In the wake of Jade’s death, research showed a huge uptake in UK women undergoing screenings which increased by almost 400,000. Sadly these figures are now on the decline and are close to the levels before Jade’s diagnosis, and the new Sky Living show aims to raise awareness of the issue once again.

Jane Johnson, Director of Sky Living: “It is saddening to see that the cervical cancer statistics have gone up again since Jade’s death. After breast cancer, it’s the second most common cancer in women aged 35 and under. We hope this moving documentary will continue Jade’s legacy and help raise awareness once again of this cruel disease.”

JADE’S LEGACY: THE FIGHT GOES ON is produced by Smoking Pony, directed by Cat Lawson. Executive Producers are Rebecca Welsh and Sarah Burkeman. The film was commissioned by Bernadette Morley at Sky.

Bringing JADE’S LEGACY: THE FIGHT GOES ON  to Sky Living reflects Sky’s promise to deliver high-quality, exclusive content to customers, supported by a commitment to increase investment in home-grown programming to £600 million by 2014, an increase of more than 50% over three years.
