Digital producers hired to report and create bespoke US content

LONDON, 3rd October 2012: Today Sky News launches a dedicated homepage for the United States ahead of November’s election. Visitors to skynews.com in the USA will arrive at a bespoke homepage focusing on the latest news tailored to a US audience. Three dedicated digital producers have been hired for this six month pilot project, and will initially be based in New York, Washington and London.

A new tab will also be launched on skynews.com in the UK, allowing users here to view US related content in one place. The dedicated section will also be available on smartphones and android devices.

Sky News is already available in the United States via the award winning Sky News for iPad and on Livestation, the largest aggregator of live television news online.

Andrew Hawken, Editorial Director of Sky News Digital said: ‘We already have a significant number of unique users in the US and we believe there is a real appetite for more of our content over there. Along with the international version of Sky News for iPad and our availability on Livestation, this is a real opportunity for Sky News to engage with new visitors and grow our existing audience in the States.’

Sky News’ multi-platform channels will carry the three Presidential debates live. Sky News has created a special three hour programme around the debates hosted by Political Editor Adam Boulton that will run from 1am until 4am overnight (4th October), Wednesday 17th October and Tuesday 23rd October.

Sky News will also offer full multi-platform coverage of the US election. Washington Correspondent Greg Milam and US Correspondent Dominic Waghorn will continue to deliver live coverage and analysis of the campaigns in the lead up to the election including the head to head debates. During the election Sky News anchors Adam Boulton, Kay Burley, Dermot Murnaghan, Jeremy Thompson and Andrew Wilson will all be stationed across the United States in key locations including Washington, Chicago and Las Vegas, and a large deployment of Sky News correspondents and specialists will also be situated in key swing states ready to react to results as soon as they come through.
