Sky Q unveils voice search and new features, making it easier to find and watch movies, shows and sports

Sky Q introduces voice search and new personalisation features, making it quicker and easier for people to get to the movies, shows and sports they love to watch.
With voice search viewers can find TV by pressing and holding the voice button on the side of the Sky Q touch remote, and simply saying what they’re looking for. Customers at home can ask Sky Q to take them to ‘Zootropolis’, ‘Billions’ or the ‘Liverpool game’ and access a great line-up of TV.
Movie buffs wanting to be a little more adventurous can even search using some of the most iconic quotes, including "Say hello to my little friend” and “I'll have what she's having.” And to discover something new, search a genre with a specific time, age or star rating, such as ‘comedy movies,’ ‘live cricket on this weekend’ and ‘Tom Hanks’ movies rated five stars’. Or find a movie and filter by award-winning actors and directors, including ‘films with Arnold Schwarzenegger and Sylvester Stallone’ or ‘movies directed by Michael Bay.’
Alongside voice search, a collection of features will also roll out to Sky Q including:
- My Q: The My Q section becomes the new Sky Q homepage. With customers wanting even more personalisation and advice on the best new shows, it will feature recommendations based on household viewing and top new series from all channels across Sky Q. And the Continue Watching section will allow customers to pick up where they left off from an episode in a series such as Game of Thrones and Fortitude. Plus navigation is simpler, with Recordings and TV Guide only a swipe away from the new My Q homepage
- Facebook videos: Now watch Facebook videos with the current My Photos application, and bring friends and family together to share Facebook memories on the big screen at home. Customers can use the My Photos App on Sky Q to sign into their Facebook profile and see their latest photos and videos
Luke Bradley-Jones, Sky’s brand director of TV and content products, commented: “May the force be with you” with your new voice search. Just ask Sky Q to “show me the money” by pressing the side of the touch remote, making it even easier and faster to find, discover and watch the TV you love.”
Voice search joins a number of existing features on Sky Q changing the way people watch TV, from ‘find my remote’, to the ability to pause and carry on from TV to tablet around the house. And with the Sky Q app, customers have the flexibility to take their recordings with them to watch even when they’re out of the home.
The new features launch during a brilliant year on screen. With new big-screen dramas every month on Sky Atlantic, including Tin Star, Big Little Lies and Twin Peaks: The Return, a new premiere every day on Sky Cinema, and the best action on Sky Sports, Sky customers have a lot to look forward to.
Plus, only with Sky Q, customers can watch the widest range of Ultra HD programming, from upcoming dramas including Guerrilla and Riviera to blockbuster movies such as Ghostbusters and X-Men Apocalypse and live Formula 1® for the first time, as well as 124 Premier League games this season.
There’s more in store for Sky Q later this year, including voice control and sports restart. In 2018, Sky will launch Sky TV without the need for a satellite dish, bringing Sky to millions more homes.

Notes to editors
- The latest software update begins rolling out to Sky Q customers in phases and will be with all customers by the end of spring
- Customers require a Sky Q touch remote and any Sky Q box that’s connected to broadband to use voice search. If they don’t have a touch remote, they can buy one from Sky.com/accessories
- To use voice search customers should press and hold the voice button on the side of the remote and speak into the microphone located below the Sky button
- Searches are across live and on demand TV
- For customers trying to find more movie quotes that are hidden in the service the quotes need to be word-perfect, and the movies will be available in line with Sky Cinema's TV rights
- Ultra HD is only available with the Sky Q 2TB box
- Facebook video will be available for those videos uploaded by the customer
Voice search allows you to search by:
- Name of a movie, TV show, genre, actor or director
- Movies with a specific age rating, star rating or actor, for example ‘action movies with Tom Cruise’, ‘kids movies rated U’ and ‘comedy movies rated five stars’
- Sports, sports team, or sporting event on a particular day, competition or tournament such as ‘Live cricket on this weekend’ or ‘Liverpool game’
- A hidden collection of famous movie quotes, for example “you can’t handle the truth”, “you had me at hello,” “my precious” and “Houston, we have a problem”
- TV channel to see what’s on now and coming on later, for example, ‘what’s on Sky Atlantic tonight’
