Sky Sports Thursday a sell-out at British Masters

Thursday 21 April 2016

All 20,000 free tickets for Sky Sports Thursday, the first day of the 2016 British Masters at The Grove, have been snapped up.  This is the second year in a row that tickets for the first day have gone in under a week.

The tournament is a great opportunity for new and existing golf fans to see some of the best players on the European Tour.   This year promises to be as exciting as 2015, when young Matthew Fitzpatrick blew away competition from the likes of Masters Champion Danny Willet, Lee Westwood and this year’s tournament host Luke Donald to claim his maiden European Tour title.

Fans can now also purchase tickets for the second, third and final rounds.   The tournament will run from Thursday 13 to Sunday 16 October and tickets are available jointly via www.europeantourtickets.com and www.sky.com/tickets

Last year 57,000 spectators attended the event and fans will again be treated to live player masterclasses and Q&As designed to be enjoyed by seasoned golf fans as well as beginners.

Tournament host Luke Donald said: “It is great news that all 20,000 free tickets have been snapped up for Sky Sports Thursday at the British Masters supported by Sky Sports, and hopefully we will now also get a good response for the other three rounds, helping to create a special atmosphere at  The Grove in October.

“It’s going to be a world class event so we would like people to bring their kids and bring their families. Like last year we are going to have the masterclasses and the Q&As so we can engage with the fans. It is going to be a fantastic event so hopefully people will support it.”

Mark Guymer, Sky Tickets Director, added: “It’s been so exciting to be a part of the British Masters for the second year running. Once again we saw unprecedented demand for Sky Sports Thursday Tickets and can now be certain that anyone attending this event will be part of a fabulous atmosphere.”

Sky Sports has teamed up with grassroots initiative 'Get Into Golf' to build on the success of last year’s British Masters, supporting the campaign to get both children and adults playing golf throughout the year, beginning this spring. To date, 3,896 adults have taken up a form of membership through the initiative, with females representing 41% of participants.

Key activation points throughout the year will include the 2016 Open Championship, the first time Sky Sports has broadcast the prestigious event, and the British Masters, which will be played at The Grove for the first time.

The Hertfordshire venue previously hosted the WGC – American Express Championship in 2006, which was won by Tiger Woods, with Ian Poulter – last year’s British Masters tournament host - joint runner-up alongside Adam Scott, while Donald finished in a share of sixth place.

Hospitality packages are also available for the British Masters supported by Sky Sports. For further information or to request a brochure call 0800 023 2557 email enquiries@europeantourhospitality.com or visit www.europeantourtickets.com.
