The portal to Yonderland opens this November on Sky 1 HD
This November, Sky 1 HD welcomes puppet-filled family comedy YONDERLAND to its customers’ screens. The 8 x 30 fantasy series is created by and starring the lead cast of Horrible Histories: Mathew Baynton, Martha Howe-Douglas, Jim Howick, Simon Farnaby, Laurence Rickard and Ben Willbond.
Married mum-of-two Debbie Maddox (Howe-Douglas) doesn't know how she's going to fill her days now that the twins have started school. Husband Peter (Dan Skinner) is busy at work, and with no kids to chase after, all that's left is cleaning, the odd embarrassing Zumba class and terrible daytime TV. What Debbie needs is a distraction and, handily, one arrives in the form of an elf hiding in her kitchen cupboard. The boredom has beaten her. She's cracked. It's the only explanation. That doesn't stop Debbie from stepping into a portal and accompanying Elf to Yonderland, though.
A long way from home, Debbie is whisked off to see the ‘wise’ Elders of Yonderland. This day has been a long time coming for the assorted idiots of the realm: the revelation that Debbie is The Chosen One; a saviour destined to deliver Yonderland from the fast-approaching forces of darkness. Flabbergasted and not a little flattered, Debbie sets off on an action-packed adventure to find out if the prophecy rings true, crossing paths with ogres, crones and oracles, not to mention a clutch of meanies led by big bad, Negatus (Farnaby). One thing’s for sure, it beats watching yet another episode of What’s in the Box.
YONDERLAND will be produced by Sioned Wiliam for Working Title Television, and will be exec produced by Tim Bevan, Eric Fellner and Juliette Howell. The director is Steve Connelly. Lucy Lumsden and Saskia Schuster will exec produce the show for Sky.
By 2014, Sky will invest £600 million a year in British programmes across its portfolio of channels. This commitment includes home-grown content such as upcoming entertainment quiz DUCK QUACKS DON’T ECHO, dramas such as MOONFLEET, THE TUNNEL, DRACULA, A YOUNG DOCTOR’S NOTEBOOK, FLEMING and THE SMOKE, comedies such as STELLA, DOLL & EM,THE KUMARS and factual shows such as KARL PILKINGTON: THE MOANING OF LIFE, THE SOUTH BANK SHOW, THE FACE and ROSS KEMP EXTREME WORLD.
YONDERLAND will air on Sky 1 HD in November.
