Top 10 Sky Entertainment shows last month

Tuesday 31 December 2013

Hi

New Year's Eve and as the babycham is chilling, it’s that time when people like me have a look back at a year of great entertainment on Sky.

2013 has seen our investment in original home-grown shows really resonate with customers. September in particular was a record-breaker for British and Irish entertainment on Sky, with original commissions accounting for a total of eight of our most popular ten shows. That’s the highest ever. Bit chuffed with that.

The continuing appetite for fantastic home-produced entertainment is again evident in the list of our most popular shows during November. Karl Pilkington’s The Moaning of Life tops the table for the second month running. That's alright, as the guru himself might say. The top-performing episode was watched by a total audience of over 2.1 million, with 116,000 viewers catching the show on the move via our top-notch mobile TV service Sky Go.  The biggest home-grown show of the year on Sky 1, The Moaning of Life has been a huge hit with Sky customers and a definite highlight of our year.

It’s also great to see the hilarious Yonderland in November's top ten. At number five, it’s the next most popular home-grown Sky show after The Moaning of Life. The show’s launch episode attracted a total of 1.5 million viewers, a huge result for an ambitious, adventurous and totally mental series which offers really great family viewing.

November was also another great month for home-grown British drama on Sky, with Dracula and The Tunnel both featuring in the top ten. The second episode of Dracula, starring Jonathan Rhys Meyers, comes in at number six, attracting over 1.3 million viewers and over 140,000 views on demand and on Sky Go. And Sky Atlantic’s gripping crime drama The Tunnel was the tenth most popular show. But please, no-one tell me the ending - it's on my box but I haven't yet seen it. I’m particularly pleased that the equivalent of one in eight of the audience also enjoyed the show via Catch Up TV on their set–top box or through Sky Go, again highlighting the appetite Sky customers have for enjoying great TV on their own terms.

Happy New Year everyone. Thanks for joining us at Sky. Hope you've enjoyed it as much as we have. As ever, drop me a note with any thoughts you might have and we'll try to make it happen for you.

See you in 2014. We promise we'll keep up the good work to give you even more great TV worth paying for.
