We’re innovating to make our products more accessible, safe and sustainable

Friday 14 November 2014

If you’ve been following our blog, newsfeed and twitter closely this month, you may have noticed a recurring theme…

We’ve been highlighting some of the best examples of how teams across Sky have been innovating to deliver safer, more sustainable products that are accessible to all our customers.

In October, we launched the updated Sky+ app, all part of ensuring everyone can enjoy the same great Sky experience, including those with disabilities. The app, our most accessible yet, means our blind and partially sighted customers can use their mobile devices to find what they want to watch.

We’re working to make Sky the safest place for families, adding a new Watershed feature to our parental control Sky Broadband Shield. This allows parents to decide on exactly which times they’d like particular content to be available on their home WiFi networks.

This month also saw the launch of our sustainable products video celebrating all the great work we’ve done as a business so far in making our products better and more sustainable year on year.

I’m really proud of what we’re doing. Our progress comes from the passion of people right across Sky for using their skills and expertise to deliver a better experience for Sky customers in a sustainable way.

And our work is ongoing – we’re using feedback from our customers, our innovation and our technology to keep making a difference over the coming months.

In early 2015, helped by the RNIB, we’ll launch a new high-contrast setting to make it easier for our partially sighted customers to navigate the Sky TV interface.

We’ll also be supporting Safer Internet Day in February 2015, through our partnership with internetmatters.org where we’re providing parents with information, advice and support.

And finally, we’ll very soon be bringing out some useful fact sheets to show how we’re reducing the environmental impacts of our products even further.
