In September 2017 we launched the search for our first Women in Technology Scholars – an exclusive Sky initiative designed to encourage more women to pursue a career in technology. Hannah, Oishi and Kike were successful in securing a place and have spent the past year developing their projects in the areas of Virtual Reality, Machine Learning and an app for Black Young Professionals. They have learned a great deal along the way and are each ready to take their projects onto the next level. For 2019, we're increasing the number of Scholars we're supporting to five - could one of them be you?

Jeremy Darroch, Group Chief Executive, Sky:

“This is all about giving young women with a passion for tech a real chance of reaching their full potential.”

“There are too few women working in technology. This is a problem that needs resolving, and we’re fully committed to finding that resolution. Our Women in Technology Scholars scheme is a step in the right direction and I’m excited to see how it helps talented women develop their careers."

How does the sponsorship work?

We are offering five women (aged 18 and over) funding and mentoring to develop their own technology project. We want to inspire each Scholar to be the best they can be so we also offer wider developmental support with one example being communication training.

Although a passion for tech is essential, we don’t mind which area interests our Scholars. We are, however, particularly interested in ideas which focus on social impact, sustainability and of course the media and entertainment industry.

What’s the application process?

Fill in the online form to tell us a bit about your experience, your area of interest and how you would spend the bursary if you were to be successful. The next stage is a phone interview followed by the opportunity to meet some key people at Sky so that we can learn more about you. Closing date for applications is 8th April 2019.
