Sky Supports Safer Internet DayPlay Video

At Sky, we are passionate about the development of young people and helping to keep families safe online and onscreen. Over the last month we’ve held Sky Academy workshops in the UK, Ireland and Italy, bringing young people together with key influencers to discuss how we can unite for a better internet.

To support and celebrate Safer Internet Day, we are publishing a video created from these workshops that raises young people’s concerns and ideas and offers advice from experts. Psychologist and Internet Matters Ambassador, Dr Linda Papadopoulos, Youtuber, Simone Paciello and Gavin Williams CEO of Quander data collection apps, all were on hand to offer their expertise.

The video also features primary school student, Josh interviewing Scotland’s First Minister, Nicola Sturgeon. The First Minister expressed her views to the students on how we can raise awareness of the dangers of the internet as well as the fact that she believes everybody should be able to enjoy it safely, a stance we fully support.

Will Gardner, UK Safer Internet Centre’s Director after attending the session and being involved in the video told me that the time he spent with the young people at the Sky Academy workshop was invaluable and insightful, and that the film we’ve created is a great way for young people’s voices to be heard and to celebrate the day.

We hope our new video will inspire our customers, employees and partners to get behind Internet Matters and celebrate Safer Internet Day through their social campaign #Giveasmile.

As a result of collective action last year, Safer Internet Day reached 2.8 million UK children and 2.5 million UK parents. We hope by working together with parents, schools, other ISPs and legislators this year we will collectively reach beyond that.

As a founding member of Internet Matters our commitment to helping keep families’ safe online and on screen goes beyond today. Through Sky Broadband Shield, a simple tool that gives Sky customers the ability to filter and restrict content online and through working with others on initiatives like the Royal Foundation Taskforce on Cyberbullying we are committed to helping keep children safe in the digital world.
