5G arrives on Sky Mobile free for new and existing customers

Thursday 16 January 2020

Sky Mobile is launching 5G connectivity on its network from today, 16th January 2020. The launch of 5G offers great value to new and existing customers, as it is available free for any customer on Sky’s free loyalty programme, Sky VIP.

It will initially be available in 20 cities and towns across the UK, including London, Edinburgh, Belfast and Leeds, with plans to roll out to a total of 50 UK destinations by summer 2020.

5G Pricing on Sky Mobile

Sky Mobile customers who are with Sky VIP can get 5G for free, with nothing to pay on top of Sky Mobile’s existing tariffs, which start from £6 a month for a 3GB data plan*. For those who want more data for 5G browsing and streaming the 9GB plan is only £12 a month. This offers great value for anyone wanting to get a faster mobile connection without paying a premium.

The full range of Sky Mobile tariffs, up to 25GB per month for data-hungry customers, can be found on Sky Mobile’s website. All plans come with Unlimited Calls & Texts at no extra cost, and Sky TV customers can stream unlimited sports, movies and TV shows through Sky’s apps without using any data.

5G phones on Sky Mobile

Sky Mobile has a range of 5G ready phones, including the Samsung Galaxy S10 5G, Samsung Galaxy Note 10+ 5G, Samsung Galaxy A90 5G and more to launch in future. Prices start from £28 a month for the Samsung Galaxy A90 5G, from £46 a month for the Samsung Galaxy Note 10+ 5G or £48 a month for Samsung Galaxy S10 5G – all include 3GB data and 5G for free. Sky Mobile’s existing Swap and Watch features are now even better with 5G. Swap lets Sky Mobile users upgrade to a new handset whenever they like, without having to wait until the end of their contract – so they can instantly upgrade to a 5G ready handset to enjoy our 5G network. Watch allows unlimited streaming of TV and movies through Sky apps without using data, so mobile users can stream content faster than ever before over 5G with minimal buffering.

5G on Sky Mobile offers the fastest ever download speeds, giving customers an amazing mobile viewing experience when streaming high-quality Sky movies, TV shows, live sports, or kids’ programmes on Sky’s apps.

“We’re excited to be launching superfast 5G on the award-winning Sky Mobile network, and even more excited to be offering it free to all Sky VIP customers. Sky Mobile is the ideal choice for anyone who wants a faster mobile connection and great value.”

How to join Sky VIP

New and existing Sky Mobile customers can join Sky VIP on the My Sky app by simply logging in with their Sky ID and tapping the VIP button. It’s free to join, doesn’t affect their contract, and offers exclusive benefits, plus access to exclusive screenings, sports events, Sky VIP experiences with sports stars and celebrities, and more. Customers not signed up to Sky VIP will get 5G free for one month and then pay £5 a month after that or can join Sky VIP at any time to get 5G for free.

How to get 5G with Sky Mobile

To get 5G, customers need a 5G ready phone and to be in a 5G coverage area. Customers can check if their area is covered by entering their postcode or location here. They can then add on 5G to their current Sky Mobile plan.

To celebrate the launch of 5G, Sky Mobile is running a competition from 16th January – 5th March 2020 with Sky VIP to give customers the chance to win a Samsung Galaxy Note10+ 5G and a Sky Mobile data plan for 1 year. To be in a chance to win customers can enter via the My Sky app.

5G and Superfast Broadband: superfast speeds in and out of home

Any new or existing customers who choose a 5G phone from Sky Mobile and Sky Superfast Broadband at the same time can get an extra 50GB data bonus, direct to their Sky Mobile Piggybank. Customers can dip into their Piggybank data whenever they need a boost, or cash in their unused data for a range of rewards including money off phones, tablets or accessories. Sky Broadband Superfast comes with a speed guarantee (or your money back) and offers unlimited fibre, ideal for streaming and sharing at home.

About Sky

With 24 million customers across seven countries, Sky is Europe’s leading media and entertainment company and is proud to be part of the Comcast group. Our 31,000 employees help connect our customers with the very best of Sports, News, the arts and to our own local, original content. Following the success of Sky originals like Chernobyl, Patrick Melrose, Das Boot and Gomorrah we launched Sky Studios and now plan to more than double our investment in original drama and comedy over the next five years.

Our technology allows customers to watch what they want, when they want, how they want, and as we connect millions of families to content they love, it is our responsibility to do it safely – that’s why we offer services like Sky Broadband Buddy and the Sky Kids app. And our online streaming service, NOW TV, brings viewers all the enjoyment of Sky with the flexibility of a contract-free service.

We also believe that a company of our scale has a responsibility that goes beyond our business, and into the community. Our Sky Ocean Rescue campaign has reached millions across Europe, we’re on track to be free of single-use plastic by 2020, we’re investing £25million over five years in ocean-saving tech and we’re a proud employer – recognised by The Times and Stonewall for our approach to inclusivity.
