Latest Sky Original to premiere in the US this year

Critically acclaimed drama I Hate Suzie is set to premiere on HBO Max, with the streaming service becoming the exclusive US home.

The show is a bold, bracing, original dramedy about the moment in life when the mask slips, asking if any of us can survive being well and truly ‘known’. The eight-part series follows Suzie Pickles who has her life upended when she is hacked and pictures of her emerge in an extremely compromising position.

Co-created and written by Emmy-winner Lucy Prebble (Succession, Enron) and starring co-creator Billie Piper (Collateral, Doctor Who), the Sky Original series received multiple 5* reviews, including from The Daily Telegraph and The Guardian, when it debuted this summer.

Episode by episode the audience follows Suzie Pickles (Piper) through the stages of shock, denial, fear, shame, bargaining, guilt, anger and acceptance as Suzie and her best friend and manager Naomi, played by Leila Farzad (Innocent, Twenty Twelve) try to hold her life, career and marriage together.

The cast also includes Daniel Ings (Lovesick, The Crown) and Nathaniel Martello-White (Collateral, Guerilla).

Produced by Bad Wolf and first commissioned by Sky Studios for Sky in the UK, the series has caught the attention of audiences around the world following other recent, high-profile pickups by Stan streaming service in Australia and Telus in Canada. The series is distributed internationally by NBCUniversal Global Distribution on behalf of Sky Studios.

Co-creators Lucy Prebble and Billie Piper, said, “We are both delighted that our loving, twisted, vivid slap of a show about a woman being hacked will be on HBO Max. It’s the perfect home for it.”

Julie Gardner, Executive Producer of I Hate Suzie and Founder, Bad Wolf, said, “I Hate Suzie is a televisual tour de force that immediately struck a chord with audiences in the UK. All at Bad Wolf are now thrilled Suzie will soon be unleashed in the US thanks to HBO Max”.

Sky Originals going global

I Hate Suzie is the latest Sky Original title to land stateside with 29 Sky Originals set to premiere in the US this year across 15 different networks and platforms – an average of more than one every fortnight.

I Hate Suzie’s premiere on HBO Max follows the platform’s acquisition of Frayed earlier this year, with Peacock acquiring Intelligence, Save Me, Hitmen and Code 404. This month alone, Gangs of London debuted on AMC+, Devils is currently running on The CW, Cobra is airing on PBS, Temple will premiere on Spectrum, and EPIX are currently broadcasting Britannia S2, after a successful run of S1 this summer.

Jane Millichip, Chief Content Officer, Sky Studios, said: “Our creative and commercial partnerships with US platforms are hugely important to Sky Studios, and it is a real testament to the appeal and quality of Sky Originals that we have placed 29 shows with 15 different platforms in 2020. “
