Sky & Swansea University launch first ever Hillary Rodham Clinton Global Challenges Scholarship

Sky and Swansea University today announced the first ever global Hillary Rodham Clinton Scholarship programme.

The scholarships will support the next generation of leaders committed to addressing urgent global challenges, including the rights and protection of children online, the climate crisis and cyber security.

Each of the scholars will be selected over the summer and granted a fully-funded, postgraduate, one-year scholarship at Swansea University, starting in the autumn.

Launching the Hillary Rodham Clinton Global Challenges Scholarship, Secretary Clinton said:

“I’m delighted that this partnership between Sky and the School of Law at Swansea will be able to achieve something truly unique, with an urgency that the challenges we face today demand. The programme is a modern, flexible approach which combines the rigour of academic excellence with practical, real world impact. These scholars will embody our shared values of working together across disciplines and geographic boundaries to improve conditions and opportunities for all, and especially for women, children, the marginalised and the disenfranchised.”

• The announcement was made today at a meeting in London attended by Secretary Clinton, Jeremy Darroch, Group CEO Sky and Professor Elwen Evans QC, Dean of the Hillary Rodham Clinton School of Law at Swansea.

• The Hillary Rodham Clinton Global Challenges Programme is a direct manifestation of the close links between the School of Law and Secretary Clinton, and is the first element of a wider strategic Global Challenges Programme, which will eventually include a doctoral research programme and relevant academic collaborations. As a flagship component of the Global Challenges programme, the MA will be limited to a select number of exceptional students, whose places are made possible through the partnership with Sky.

• The Masters scholarships will be delivered as an executive, bespoke, taught programme and will include an external placement to allow scholars to gain real world insight and experience.Applications are now open via the Hillary Rodham Clinton School of Law website www.swansea.ac.uk/law/globalchallenges. The closing date for applications is Wednesday 24 July 2019. Selection will take place over the summer with the first scholars expected to be taking up their places in October 2019.

• In October 2017, Swansea University conferred an Honorary Award on former US Secretary of State, Hillary Rodham Clinton, in recognition of her political career, commitment to human rights, and her ancestral connections with Swansea. During the ceremony, Secretary Clinton gave a keynote lecture on children’s human rights and unveiled a plaque to mark the naming of the Hillary Rodham Clinton School of Law at Swansea University.
