Thursday 25 November 2021

Sky News will be available to Saorview users from 30th November

Sky’s flagship international news service, Sky News, will become free to air in Ireland as the channel launches on the Saorview platform from Tuesday, 30th November.

Users of Ireland’s free digital television service will find Sky News on Saorview channel 23 – giving viewers access to Sky News’ live 24-hour news bulletins and programmes, with all the latest breaking news from around the world and developments closer to home with reporting from Sky News correspondents covering breaking stories across the island of Ireland.

Commenting on the launch of Sky News on Saorview, Sky Ireland CEO, JD Buckley, said: “Sky News is a multi-platform, world class service that regularly covers the issues that matter here. We have production teams and correspondents based out of Dublin and Belfast, who contribute to the Sky News service every day, so we are delighted that our channel is being made free to air in Ireland. Sky News also employs over 500 journalists around the world, who are on the frontline of every breaking development, so in addition to breaking news here, Saorview users will have access to global reporting, insights and in-depth analysis.”

Also commenting on the launch, Saorview’s Jim Higgins said: “Sky News is a welcome addition to the Saorview family of free-to-air channels. The launch of Sky News on Saorview will offer our audience a new source of local and global news from a popular and well-recognised international news channel.”

Through programmes such as ‘The Early Rundown’, ‘Kay Burley’ and ‘Ian King Live’, Sky News covers a broad range of stories from the worlds of politics, sports, business, science and technology, and arts and entertainment. Sky News has also been a leading facilitator and driver of climate change awareness. ‘The Daily Climate Show’, hosted by Anna Jones, is a daily programme that examines stories that are impacting our changing climate and showcases the efforts being made to find solutions to the problems caused by the climate crisis.

Sky News will be live on Saorview channel 23 from Tuesday, 30th November. Sky News will automatically appear on most Saorview approved set-top boxes and TV sets. However, some users may have to rescan their set-top box or TV to receive Sky News. For information on how to rescan or set up your set-top box or TV, please visit www.saorview.ie.
