Transitioning towards a low-carbon economy
We’re transforming our business by designing tech with energy efficiency and recyclability in mind, reducing waste and supporting our operations with renewable energy.
Our UK and Ireland operations purchase and match 100% renewable electricity. We’re transitioning to electric vehicles for our fleet. Our TV productions prioritise sustainability behind-the-scenes. And we’re finding new ways all the time to reduce our carbon emissions.
We’re part of albert, the TV industry sustainability consortium. We are also committed to the UNFCCC Sports for Climate Action framework.
Our commitment to sustainability is underpinned by our science-based target to reduce absolute Scope 1, 2 and 3 GHG emissions by 50% by 2030 from a 2018 base year. This target contributes to our parent company Comcast’s near-term science-based targets for Scope 1, 2 and 3 emissions that have been validated by the Science Based Targets initiative. See here for more detail about how we will deliver against our emissions reduction ambition.
"Climate change is impacting our communities and the world in which we operate. For those of us leading change within a business, tackling climate change is an important part of our decision- making, and our organisation’s operational health. So at Sky, we’re transforming how we do business today to contribute to a low carbon economy."

Technology built with sustainability in mind
We design for energy efficiency, building products that are made to last. Once our customers have finished with their routers, set top boxes and tech products, we recondition and reuse them. And when they are no longer useful, we recycle them. All our packaging is 100% recyclable, responsibly sourced, and free from single-use plastics.
A powerhouse of sustainable film production
We created Sky Studios Elstree, our new film and TV studio, with the ambition of making it the most sustainable studio in the world. The campus is powered by solar and renewable energy. It uses harvest rainwater, LED lighting and electric vehicles through its operations.

Tackling the climate crisis, through TV
People care about the planet, and across the world are feeling the effects of climate change. We’re using our channels and content to raise awareness of the climate crisis and its solutions, and mobilise individuals to act, inspiring change that can make a big difference.

Sky News
Sky News is raising awareness of climate change, with a dedicated Climate Change and Energy Correspondent and real-time coverage and analysis.

Sky Kids
Sky Kids is inviting children and their families to explore sustainability, with shows like Obki, where a loveable alien goes on missions to protect the earth.

Sky Sports
Through Sky Sports, we’re showing sports fans the impact that climate change is already having, from changing weather patterns flooding pitches to athletes suffering from heat exhaustion.

Working with our suppliers to reduce emissions
We’re working with our partners, suppliers and production companies to reduce emissions across our value chain. We’re encouraging suppliers to set carbon reduction plans and move to renewable electricity.
Investing in nature
Our priority is to lower our emissions as much as we can. It’s crucial though, that we reduce the impact of any emissions we can’t cut yet. We’ll do that by protecting and restoring natural habitats and biodiversity, so that plants and sea grass can absorb those carbon emissions. Our partners at the Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew and WWF are helping us to maximise our impact, ensuring that these natural habitats are good for local communities, as well as the planet.

Working for a healthier planet for decades
For years, we’ve worked to create a healthier planet.

Governance and reporting
Sky is proud to be part of the Comcast NBCUniversal family. We work closely with Comcast and NBCUniversal on our environmental and social impact. Together, we produce an annual enterprise-wide Impact Report.
We also provide performance updates against key targets, such as our decarbonisation strategy and our ongoing commitment to the UN Global Compact and their ten principles on human rights, labour, the environment and anti-corruption. Our Risk and Governance Committee is responsible for overseeing risk management and ESG reporting. Our Sky Zero decarbonisation strategy is governed by Sky's Group Executive, underpinned by working teams in each area of our business and reporting into Comcast.
For more information on how we calculate our emissions and our progress against our commitments please see our Documents page.
